In reality, this Puja should be called a religious ritual yet so pervasive is its influence, so spontaneous is the participation from all communities. It can be dubbed as the biggest cultural act of Kolkata. Aparna Sen says "Durga Puja is our main Bengali festival and that's something that everyone shares in like even as long as the Bengalis whether they are Muslims whether they are Christians or Brahmos. I am a Brahmin but I used to equally participate in the Durga Puja of the para when I was a child."
