The beautiful pink flower is Podophyllum hexandrum. More lovely, perhaps, than any garden tulip, you think...? Podophyllum hexandrum or Himalayan Mayapple (bankakari) growing in the high Himalaya. This valuable medicinal plant produces podophyllin which is an important anti-cancer drug. This is also an ayurvedic drug from ancient India. Iris kemaonensis growing near Lamkhaga Pass, above Harsil, near the border of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Kumaon Iris or Iris kemaonensis comes from the Himalayas, and is named after the Kumaon region. Flowers occur on short leafy stems 5-10 cm. Solitary, nearly stemless, lilca or pale purple spotted or botched flowers, appear with young leaves. 'Falls' obovate, short-stalked, with yellow beard. 'Standards' elliptic, lilac, incurved above.
