Rhododendron campanulatum is a flowering shrub that inhabits in the higher alpine meadows and the upper limits of the tree line zone. The second flower that you see here is Bergenia stracheyi also known as Saxifrage or in Sanskrit it is known as shilphara which means that it is believed to be able to break rocks apart. These wonderful spring-time alpine blooms were filmed above the Yamunotri temple in late April 2015. Bergenia stracheyi is a plant species in the genus Bergenia found in the Western Himalayas, from 2700-4700 m, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Bergenin and norbergenin are chemical compounds that can be isolated from rhizomes of B. stracheyi.
