A Purvanchali woman (or one from the bhojpuri speaking belt) in Delhi prays to sun god, at Chhat puja celebrations at India Gate. The water body built by the British acts as a river for prayer and immersion during Chhatt pooja prayers after the monsoons. Coconuts, marigold malas or garlands and more are offered to the Sun God. Women sit on the water boy's banks in their best (almost bridal!) attire, mostly red sarees with golden borders. They look their best and dress their best for this all-important festival for Biharis, Uttar Pradesh residents and other Purvanchali Bhojpuri speaking folks.
