Devotees offer prayers to Lord Ganesha before immersing the idol into the river. Thousands of people gather to bid farewell to their beloved Ganesha on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi. The last day of the festival witnessed an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha by people mainly in the Western belt of India, with the prayer of his return next year. It is on the last day of Ganesh Chaturthi that the idols of the revered God are immersed into the sea/river and the day is celebrated as Ganpati Visarjan. Observed with much fervour and excitement, the final day of the festival saw people coming together to bid farewell to their beloved Ganesha.
