For tour operators, a steady growth in numbers might seem good tidings at first glance but a closer look would reveal that in the near term India's infrastructural facilities might not be able to absorb the pressure of rising foreign tourist traffic. The list of lacunae would start with the total lodging capacity in the country. The current capacity of fifty-two thousand rooms might be enough for today's tourist requirements but a new target of one hundred thousand rooms aim to be created within the two years might still be unable to service the demand generated by projected five million tourists.
