Daily wage labourers wait around for daily wage work at a labour market in South Delhi. This is actually a market for human beings to be traded on the basis of a day's work, for construction or other human labour requirements. Many of them go back home empty-handed, after sitting on the roadside for hours, and not getting any work. On a good day, they receive between Rs. 450 and 750 or US$6 and 10 for a full day of heavy manual labour. One of the men sitting here has an amputated arm. Even he hopes for work and wages. Such is his spirit and hard working mentality. He does not expect compassion. Just equality and a chance to work and earn. The goodold indomitable Indian spirit.
