On the 26th of October 1947, hordes of tribals from Pakistan invaded Kashmir. Sheikh Abdullah, who had been released from jail was asked by the Maharaja to head an emergency administration. The Maharaja sent a wire to New Delhi seeking military help, in the absence of an agreement it could not be given. Sheikh Abdullah organised a local militia for the defence of the Kashmir valley. On the advice of the sheikh, the Maharaja signed the instrument of accession. This footage is part of the broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of HD imagery from South Asia.
