Driving on the roads of Chandigarh in the state of Punjab in India, one can see bikes / motorcycles, auto-rickshaws, cycles, buses a Maruti 800 and also well-planned Lutyens' greenery on both sides of the road. This is NH1 or National Highway 1, also known as the Grand-Trunk Road and it stretches from Wagah to Delhi, via Amritsar and Ludhiana. Chandigarh is a city and a union territory in the northern part of India that serves as the capital of the states of Punjab 60% and Haryana 40% . As a union territory, the city is ruled directly by the Union Government of India and is not part of either state.
