My name is Shyamal Singh Segal. I served in the Madhya Pradesh Police from 1950 to 1989. Between 1951 and 1955, we had several encounters with Man Singh. During those encounters, many rounds were fired. At times, some of our fellow constables were killed. Occasionally, a minor dacoit was also shot dead. This incident is from 1952. We were in District Bhind, pursuing Man Singh. He fled across the Chambal River toward District Etawah. Early the next morning, our police party also reached that area. Around the same time, some people were seen coming from the Etawah side, acting like informers. As soon as they crossed the Chambal boundary, one of the informers shouted, “Line clear.” We already knew that whenever someone said something like that, it meant some movement was about to happen.
