Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, is one of the main venues of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the 9th Asian Games in 1982 and the 1989 Athletics Asian Championships. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games were hosted at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Oct 3rd and 14th, 2010 respectively. Named after the first Prime Minister of free India, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, this stadium is a multipurpose sports ground which can host football, athletics and other sporting events. JN Stadium is also capable of hosting large-scale entertainment events. The maximum capacity it can hold is about 60,000 to 100,000 spectators.
