Centuries ago camel trains cross this desert terrain as the linked India and central Asia creating a unique world of its own a world of vast expanses where in the wake of commerce and barter townships grew and life flourished. In western Rajasthan, only 900 km from Delhi lies one such enchanting town trapped in a time warp of medieval Randhir. A town of forts and palaces of golden sandstone fortresses and winding roads which leads to busy bazaars, a tangled maze of streets small enough not to matter. Every February when moon is full, Jaisalmer explodes with music and color celebrating its present even as it remembers its glorious past conjuring up the spirit of the Rajput clans with a chivalry proud ferocity and their love for music, dance and the decorative arts.
