Goa actually has a wild wilderness side to it, with bird sanctuaries, estuaries, secluded coasts and rivers with wooded banks. It also has crowded beaches, beach shacks that pollute the Arabian Sea, mining, and a Russian mafia that runs drugs and worse. Most people head to Goa for balmy weather, sea-food galore and the heady cool holiday destination that it has become for the larger middle class of India.
