Traffic and Bangkok seem to be synonymous. From cars, buses, the Skytrain to pedestrians and bikers, everyone seems to be jostling for space. Yet, in this crowded part of town is located the Erawan shrine, an island of devotion, dance and music. With traffic, the Skytrain and the Sky bridge in the background, the Erawan shrine seems to be an unlikely spot for prayers, yet it is a busy shrine with devotees thronging to it at all times. The shrine was built in 1956, was vandalised in 2006 and in 2015, a bomb exploded near the shrine, killing 20 people and injuring 125 but none of this seems to have diminished the popularity of the shrine for its devotees.
