Lathmar Holi is being celebrated in Nandgaon near Mathura during the traditional Holi festivities in Uttar Pradesh, India. The video shows men carrying large circular shields used for protection during the ritual where women strike them with bamboo sticks known as lathis. Participants and the surrounding area are covered in orange and red gulal powder as part of the celebration. Many people are dressed in traditional clothing including saffron and red turbans associated with the festival atmosphere. The event recreates the Hindu legend of Krishna visiting Barsana and being chased away by Radha and her companions. Large crowds of devotees and visitors gather for the celebration accompanied by folk songs and chants of “Radhe Radhe.”
