ITO intersection is one of the busiest traffic intersection in Delhi, as it connects East Delhi to Central and North Delhi to South. During office hours one traffic signal remains red for more than 2-4 minutes, which creates a bottleneck on the intersection. WAYU: Wind Augmentation purifYing Unit. Developed by CSIR-NEERI and DST. WAYU, designed by NEERI and IIT (Bombay), works by converting pollutants such as dangerous PM2.5 and PM10 particles, carbon monoxide and volatile organic compounds into carbon dioxide using a filter. Its creators claim it can reduce pollution at busy traffic junctions by 40-60 percent.
