A melodic mellow sound of carnatic violin by Arvind Narayan on the occasion of 4th Thalainagaril Margazhi Mahotsavam at Vasuki Auditorium, Lok Kala Manch in New Delhi. Indian (Carnatic and Hindustani) violinists play seated on the floor and rest the scroll of the instrument on their ankle, in order to insure its stability when the left hand goes from a high position to a low one, and vice-versa. This position is especially useful while playing the intricate ornamentation that is typical of Indian classical music. Carnatic music is a system of music commonly associated with the southern part of the Indian subcontinent, with its area roughly confined to four modern states of India: Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.
