Lamka, originally & locally known as Lamka, town is the district headquarters of Lamka district in Manipur. "Due to its commercial origins,Lamka is the most multi-ethnic and cosmopolitan hill town in Manipur. During WW II, Lamka did not escape Japanese bombing; but it enjoyed about five decades of quiet and peaceful progress in the post-War period. Especially during the 1970s and '80s,Lamka was an "island of peace" which exerted a magnetic pull for many moneyed investors seeking good profit. Sangai festival is an annual cultural festival organised by Manipur Tourism Department on every year from November 21 to 30. Even though many editions of this Festival has been celebrated over the past few years with the name of Tourism Festival, since 2010 this has been renamed as the Sangai Festival
