Affixing chains on car tyres, to be able to drive in snow and ice conditions, in Ladakh, and to climb to 17, 500 foot passes such as Wari La and Khardung La in October, when the first snowfalls of the season have taken place. The driver sits and affixes the chains in cold and icy conditions, without gloves, and does a tough job in a rough fashion.
