Carrying sugarcane stalks and bundles of materials on their heads, Purvanchali citizens of India head to the Yamuna river for Chhat puja celebrations. Chhath puja hordes carry potlis on their heads, women in bridal finery, head to river for prayers to Sun god, all with much fanfare and a festive mood and spirit. Also, political funding and backing as they are an important vote bank for politicians! Significance of Chhath puja,as celebrated in north India Women devotees head home after a tiring day on the riverbank, celebrating Chatth/ Chhat puja and making offerings to the Purvanchali sun god. Women, children and men file back from the river, loads on their heads, with offerings of fruit, flowers, sugarcane stalks, coconuts and other prayer materials. Women devotees head home after tiring
