Dynamic drum dances of Manipur, performed by men and characterised by energetic drumming, accompanied by complex rhythms and cross rhythms, jumps and aerial leaps. The Dhol is a large drum used during Manipuri dances, especially on religious occasions. Dhol cholom is a form of singing and dancing to the accompaniment of the Dhol and is performed by a group of male dancers. The drumming rises gradually from a whisper to a thunderous climax as the tempo of the dance builds up in equal up in measure.This dance of the Meiteis of Manipur valley is associated with Yaoshang or the Festival of colours.Dhol Cholom,is a part of the Manipuri sankirtana tradition.
