Given the long drawn contentious history of ties between India and China, a resolve to underline a new principle seems a positive step. While the boundary issue was put on a qualitatively different trajectory, however, analysts are of the opinion that this process of transparency between two nations might lead to China's recognition of Sikkim as an integral part of India. A spokesperson says "I think we will move forward on things like trade, on economic relations, on cultural exchanges, people to people exchanges. But I do not think we are going to move forward, if we do it then it will be very slow, on the boundary issue, on Sikkim, on parts of India that China claims."
