Prayer flags near the Yumthang river bank in Sikkim, India. Pedicularis flowers on the swampy meadow, en route Yumesamdong which lies on the plateau beyond Yumthang's hot springs. En route Yumthang, one passes through the Shingba / Siugba Rhododendron sanctuary and earlier on, the village of Lachung from where one can go up the valley to Katao top! A prayer flag is a colorful panel or rectangular cloth often found strung along mountain and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside or for other purposes. Traditionally, prayer flags come in sets of five, one in each of five colors. The five colors represent the elements and the Five Pure Lights and are arranged from left to right in a specific order.
