The 26th International Film Festival opened in Bombay at the open air Brabourne Stadium this week. it was a colorful ceremony with guests being entertained in the traditional Maharashtrian way. The lamp was lit by the doyen of Tamil cinema Shivaji Ganeshan assisted by Madhuri Dixit. The inaugural film at the festival was an offering from Shyam Benegal 'Mammo'. It is perhaps the first time that Benegal presents a film whose very core is an emotional heart-rending tale the story of long separation and final reunion of family members inadvertent victims of the politics of post-partition India and Pakistan. The festival flags off the centenary celebrations of filmmaking there are special functions designed to commemorate the occasion This footage is part of the broadcast stock footage archive
