Recently a flap shell turtle was rescued from a water whole in Bagheera's Camp and released near a pond. The Indian flap-shell turtle is a unique reptile and is a type of Indian mud turtle. The “flap-shelled” name stems from the presence of femoral flaps located on the plastron. These flaps of skin cover the limbs when they retract into the shell. It’s a known fact that the flap-shell turtle reduces organic pollution in aquatic ecosystems by feeding on insects and fragments of dead animals.
