According to orthodox Hindu tradition, widows were not allowed to celebrate the festival of colour. In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh in a first, windows enjoy Holi or the Spring Festival at the Gopinath Temple. The widows participate in the colour smearing festivities and also enjoy the games at the festival with other devotees.
