A gregarious shrublet, commonly present in alpine shrubberies, and often forming a peripheral shrubbery around a dense thicket of R. campanulatum and often growing in the protection of a stand of Betula utilis. The white and yellow flowers grow in small compact clusters of 4-6 and individually measure about 2cm. across. The dark green oval-shaped leaves are collected and mixed with Juniper are used for incense in Buddhist monasteries as well as offering for Hindu religious ceremonies.
