In India, there is a the tradition to bury the Tazia, a replica of the tomb of Husain, the martyred son of Muhammad. On the 8th day of Rabi' al-awwal the third month of Islamic calendar, Chup Tazia is observed by the Shia muslims of India and Pakistan. This procession of Chup Tazia marks the end of the mourning procession that begins in the Islamic month of Muharram. The procession of Chup Tazia originated in Lucknow. It was started by Nawab Ahmed Ali Khan Sahukat Yar Jung during the Nawabi era. It is one of the most crucial processions of Azadariin Lucknow. On this date the colossal black tazia is carried out in procession and finally buried. The Shia Muslims light candles and say prayers remembering the sacrifices of Hussein.
