As it name sounds Mayangton is quite related to Mayang which literally means foreign. This wild basil is quite used as a garnish. It’s a herb which is predominantly used specially in Iromba and it is quite interestingly used as BORA ( meitei term for the Fritters or pakora ). This herb also goes pretty well with pumpkin sabji’s or fries. The sweet, lemony and basil scents of the mayangton makes it quite a tempting vegetarian dish. Mayangton is a versatile herb that may be used in such an abundant variety of foods. It is excellent in tomato-based dishes, spinach, and all types of squash. It is great in soup but don't add it until the last thirty minutes of cooking. It can also be used in cream cheese for sandwiches, dips, and pasta dishes.
