Bhupen Hazarika sings a song ''Agni Jugor Firingoti Moi" in the Subha Savere show. He also said that this is a fiery age. I will build a new Assam, and I will build a new Bharat. That means we Assamese people have never been secessionists. Some people are shouting that we should separate from India, but Assam has always been an integral part of India. Since the days of the Mahabharata, Assam — known as Kamrup, Kamakhya — along with Kumari, Mehak, Kashmir, and its tributaries, has always been connected to the larger Indian civilisation. So who are we to be told to secede from India? Who has the right to say that? We are very much Indian, only with a little internal difference. Unity in diversity.
