City of Joy as dubbed by Dominic Lapierre Calcutta was the capital city of the British empire in India until it shifted to New Delhi. Kolkata as it is called today is a slow-moving city with remnants of its past glory still evident in the buildings and the many monuments. This is life on the banks of the Hooghly River under the Howrah Bridge filmed in the 1990s. At dawn the banks of the river is bustling with activities with fishermen setting out for the day, devotees offering prayers and performing rituals. Sunrise and there is another crowd buying fresh flowers. Flower vendors are seen busy with preparing floral arrangements.
