The Jai Vilas Mahal or The Jai Vilas Palace, is a nineteenth-century palace in India. It was built in 1874 by Jayajirao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior and is still the residence of his descendants.the former royal Maratha Scindia dynasty. Jai Vilas Palace was constructed by Maharaja Jayaji Rao scindia in 1874 at a cost of Rs. One crore. It is a fine example of Europian architecture, designed and built by Sir Michael Filose. Filose was rewarded with a well-deserved knighthood. It is particularly famous for its large Durbar Hall. The area of the Jai Vilas palace is 12,40,771 square feet.The first storey is of the Tuscan, the second of the Italian-Doric and the third is of the Corinthian order of architecture.
