Robert Persig and a roadside bike mechanic in India? Worlds apart are they... A mechanic works on a disassembled single-cylinder motorcycle engine at a local roadside repair shop in India. Seated on the ground, he holds the engine assembly steady while using a large hammer to adjust a component on top. Tools, a metal basin, engine oil and plastic containers are scattered around the workspace. Another man stands nearby using his mobile phone, while an open metal cabinet holds mechanical tools, spare parts and other workshop supplies. A makeshift display above the cabinet features two wheels and a Jeep-style front grille.
