Boating in the Ganga at Varanasi, a sadhu walking in the same spot and evening lights with boats on the Ganga. Women walk into the river to place lit daunas or patta lights onto the water. Boats galore on the Ganga - almost Viking-like and prehistoric / ancient in look! Haridwar is a very old city mentioned in the accounts of Huien Tsang, the famous 7th century Chinese traveller. It is the site of many religious festivals. Most notably, once every twelve years it is the venue for the Kumbh Mela, humanity's largest festival, which drew a record 70 million in 2003.
