In parts of the Himalaya, the summer snowmelt is so extreme that the peaks are left bereft of snow cover. But here in the Rudragaira-Gangotri-Srikantha belt the glaciers run deep, the snowpack is extreme and the peaks have massive glaciation and off season water resources. The summer melt powers the water resources of the Ganga, watering the plains of north India. What a corniced top the summit of Rudragaira is, with a saddle of ice to reach it. And what a massive Himalayan glacier lies to the north of Rudragaira peak, fed by the Gangotri range peaks, with fields of wrinkled crevasses across the glacial snow field.
