How to wear a Kira - Bhutanese Women's Ethnic Wear

The kira is an ankle length woven and unstitched fabric dress worn by Bhutanese women. First, one puts on the wonju or the long sleeve blouse and the kira is wrapped around the body. The pair of brooches are commonly known as Koma. The ends are then pinned at both shoulders with the help of koma. They are of traditional design and have intricate patterns. The kiras for men and women are different in style as men's kiras have simpler design and are comprised of fewer colours in the weave. Then comes the tego, the long sleeve blouse and short jacket worn over the kira. Dhopchhu is the traditional Bhutanese style bracelet.
