Ayodhya - A City under Siege The contention of Ramkot Hill in Ayodhya between Hindus and Muslims. The Babri Masjid built during emperor Babur's rule was claimed by Hindus that it was the birthplace of Ram. The tension had since started back in the 28th century. However, the climax in the religious tensions between the two religious groups came with the demolition of the Babri Masjid in December 1992 by Kar Sevaks or volunteers for the RSS and its associated parties. This resulted in communal riots between the two religious groups in the country and neighbouring nations and retaliatory actions like the Bombay Bomb Blast of 1993.
