Glimpse of Amarnath Yatra, one of the toughest treks in India

The annual Amarnath Yatra is one of the most popular Hindu pilgrimages of India. One of the most sacred and arguably one of the most arduous pilgrimages to the snow- clad cave shrine of Lord Shiva. Each year, nearly six lakh pilgrims undertake this difficult yatra to worship the shivlinga of ice at Amarnath, situated at an altitude of 3,880 meters. The Amarnath shrine is situated in the northern Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. Access to the holy cave is generally open from mid July to early August and concludes around the festival of Raksha Bandhan, towards the end of the Hindu calendar month of shravan. The cave shrine of Amarnath can be accessed only during the months of July and August, as only by then the pure white ice-mound of the Shivalinga is formed. Rising to acquire its fullest
