A hand-made traditional wooden boat made of local materials sits almost abandoned below a copse of coconut trees on a white sandy beach on Greater Nicobar island, with a distant view of palm trees and a smaller island. In the distance, one can also see a ship that has run aground and been abandoned. Did it get hit by the tsunami? Some of the locations showed in this footage include Kakana Beach and backwaters, Car Nicobar, Kabra Island and Kondul Island, Great Nicobar Island and Indira Point. Great Nicobar is the largest of the Nicobar Islands of India, north of Sumatra. Indira Point, its southernmost tip, is also the southernmost point of India. The island of Sumatra is located to the south of Great Nicobar. The island covers 1045 km² but is sparsely inhabited, with a population of 9,440,
