A man takes a dip in cold water on the occasion of Chhat Puja. He prepares for another dip while shivering from the cold. Indian women stand in cold water for hours as well, to pray to Sun god at Chhat Puja. The festival is celebrated mainly in Northern India including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, it has also started to be celebrated by the people of Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Mumbai, Delhi, Nepal, and Mauritius. The festival is celebrated in between the months of October and November. Chhath literally means “Six” and here the festival gets started just after the Govardhan Puja, completing on the seventh day (Saptami- the Paran/ Parna Day).
