Huge blocks of marble sit around at this marble crushing, cutting and preparation unit in Rajasthan, close to where the marble blocks of stone are mined. These will be prepared into slabs that are then transported to cities such as Jaipur and Delhi for sale to the middle class and the rich, for flooring, tiles and walls of their homes. The environmental cost of marble mining and the water and electricity requirements for cutting and polishing/preparing it are enormous.
