"Amma Unavagam" canteen corporation of Chennai, Government of Tamil Nadu. Idly- 1 re, Pongal, Sambhar rice, Lemon/ Curry leaf rice each at Rs.5 and curd rice at rs.3. Amma Unnavagam is a visionary scheme of hon'ble Chief minister of Tamil Nadu. A unique attempt to provide quality food to poor people at low cost. First scheme of its kind in the country, implemented by Corporation of Chennai. 200 canteens in all the 200 divisions of Corporation of Chennai and more than 1,50,000 beneficiaries per day. One large canteen opened in Govt. Hospital, Chennai. No compromise on health and hygiene. R.O. drinking water plants installed in all 202 outlets. Breakfast(7am to 10 am)- Idly and Pongal Lunch (12pm to 3pm)- Sambar rice, Lemon/curry leaf rice and curd rice. SHGs comprising of nearly 2500 women
