Devotees of Guru Rimpoche in Kurje Lhakhang, Easter Bhutan are gathered to partake in the auspicious blessing and cleansing ceremony. A Thangkha or cloth with images of the guru and his disciples and people connected to him are displayed on this auspicious day. The display involves a special ceremony as the monks unravel the Thongdrel in unison with the rhythm of a Gong. The Thongdrel is believed to ward off evil and cleanse oneself in the Buddhist belief in Eastern Bhutan.
