This rather brash looking purple flower belongs to the prickly Artichoke plant of which we cook and eat the tender inside of the prickly pre flowering heads. See the broad serrated leaves of the artichoke plant as well. Small spines coming out of the leaves that surround the edible part of this green vegetable. It is more or less globe shaped and usually seen in supermarket shelves. These artichoke plants have been filmed at our Wilderness Orchard in the early summer. We have brought for you the close up of the plant and the edible part. Notice the artichoke bud which is the edible part of the plant.
