It was in more ways a historic meeting. The Indian Prime Minister Mr. I.K. Gujral met the US President, Bill Clinton in New York this week. The meeting that had been scheduled during Mr. Gujral's visit to New York, where he has gone to address US General Assembly was preceded with a great deal of speculation. Critics had claimed that the United States would make an attempt to mediate in the dispute between India and Pakistan. They were also apprehensive that the USA would try and untwist India in reversing India's stated goal on the disarmament issue. However, observers argued that finally what transpired between the two heads of Government could be termed as a highly successful meeting.
