Up the mountain on a dandi! A devout pilgrim being carried up to Amarnath on a dandy / dandi or makeshift palki / palanquin, which is really just a bed frame or khatia! A long line of horses, mules and people trek to Amarnath, up a steep dusty path, often with the elements against them. A true slog... But now far away, the yellow Potentillas bloom below the path, for those who might care to spot them! Most just slog on in their single-minded pursuit of divinity! Located in Jammu and Kashmir and situated on Mount Amarnath, the Amarnath caves are one of the most famous shrines in Hinduism. Dedicated to the god Shiva, the shrine is said to be over 5,000 years old. The shrine forms an important part of Hinduism.
