This wildlife footage captures an Olive Ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) laying eggs on the beaches of Odisha, one of the most important nesting grounds for the species in the world. The turtle is seen carefully digging a nest cavity in the sand using her rear flippers before depositing eggs, a slow and instinct-driven process that leaves the animal extremely vulnerable to disturbance. Odisha’s coastline is globally famous for hosting mass nesting events known as “arribada”, where thousands of Olive Ridley turtles come ashore during the breeding season. These beaches play a critical role in the survival of the species, which is currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
