A pile of stones creates a route marker known as a cairn or thoua en route the Gangotri peaks which can be clearly seen in bright winter light on the way up to Mt. Rudragaira in the Garhwal Himalaya. The Gangotri peaks are heavily avalanche-prone. Notice the cornice at the summit of Gangotri I peak. Fresh snow sits atop the glacial seracs. The Gangotri I, II and III peaks can be seen, with Auden's Col to the left, with the Rudragaira river valley valley below.
