These elections were dubbed as crucial for democracy in Pakistan and this week even as Nawaz Sharif and his Pakistan Muslim League romped home to a landslide victory, keenly watching the electoral battle, as well as the change of guards, were political commentators in India. India and Pakstan have been linked through a common history and a see-saw of bilateral relations spread over the last fifty years. Elections in both countries have curiously created hope and despair in people on both sides of the border. Primarily because a change of government implies a change of policy. It is therefore not surprising that even as Nawaz Sharif prepares to be sworn in as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan, political pandits are once again at work to asses the likely implications of the outcome of this
