As one drives from Darjeeling, along the tracks of the quaint toy train, towards the plains around Bagdogra, the crowded street-side homes and shops and the vehicles on the road, all vie for space with the toy train and its tracks, and pedestrians. A very Darjeeling milieu of a crowded hill station approach road in West Bengal. The train station at Ghoom and Sonada are old fashioned, quaint and date back to British times! See the antiquated ticket counter made of heavily varnished wood, and the porter carrying furniture right on the train tracks itself. Everyone seems to use the train tracks as a convenient means of transit, and they politely and temporarily step aside for just a moment when the train ambles by, on its tracks!
